Getting Started in the Quantum World
There are many different ways to enter the fascinating quantum world and to explore the matter and energy at the most fundamental level. Quantum phenomena are all around us, acting on every scale. You may just have started your career at your University or have already become an expert on your field.
On this page you'll find a variety of possibilities for Bachelor's students:
Universität Hamburg | Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) |
Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter | European XFEL
UHH Physics Department
The Department of Physics at the Universität Hamburg sets itself the goal of making weighty and lasting contributions to science at the highest international standard through its teaching and research.
UHH Chemistry Department
The Department of Chemistry of Universität Hamburg is one of the largest chemistry departments in the Federal Republic of Germany and one of the key state training and research centers for chemistry in northern Germany.
DESY Summer student programme
Each summer DESY offers undergraduate students in physics or related natural science disciplines the possibility to participate in the research activities of the laboratory at the Hamburg or Zeuthen (near Berlin) sites.
Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU) | Technische Universität Dresden (TUD)
Orientierungsstudium - JMU Würzburg
Those who would like to study physics, but do not yet know what to expect, have the opportunity to participate in the orientation study. Here you can get a taste of different fields of study for one semester. Lecturers from the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy show that physics is more than just a vocational training with excellent career prospects.
Orientierungsstudium MINT (OSM) - TU Dresden
With the OSM, you have the chance to get a taste of the various STEM degree programs. This includes the opportunity to attend lectures, participate in workshops and excursions and take exams. The pilot phase is scheduled to start during the winter semester 2023/24.
Universität Stuttgart | Universität Ulm | Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research
Fundamental lectures on QT
At the Universities of Stuttgart and Ulm many interesting fundamental lectures or seminars on quantum science and technology are offered within the bachelor programs in physics, chemistry and engineering.
University of Cologne | RWTH Aachen | University of Bonn | Research Center Jülich
Undergraduate Research Internship Program
The ML4Q Undergraduate Research Internship Program aims to raise the interest of talented students in the quantum technologies research. It gives an opportunity of hands-on experience in scientific work and an overview of the research performed in the cluster.
LMU Munich | TU Munich | MPI of Quantum Optics | Walther-Meissner-Institute | Deutsches Museum
Summer Student Program
The MCQST Summer Bachelor Program provides undergraduate students worldwide the opportunity to gain an insight into research in Quantum Science and Technology (QST) at MCQST and its participating institutes. The 2022 consists of an introductory week featuring a retreat and a mini lecture series, followed by a three-week research project. In addition, cultural and social activities give you a taste of life in Munich. By the end of the program, you will have gained first-hand expert knowledge in quantum science and technology and a familiarity with the Munich research environment.
Leibnitz Universität Hannover | TU Braunschweig | Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. | Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute) | Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt
Optical Technologies: Lasers and Photonics (Bachelor of Science)
The Bachelor’s programme in Optical Technologies: Lasers and Photonics is the only one of its kind at a German university. While the degree programme is characterised by a focus on the specialist field of optics, the education offered is interdisciplinary and wide-ranging. Students learn the basics of physics, mathematics, chemistry and electrical engineering, combined with typical engineering problem-solving skills.
Leibniz Universität Hannover | TU Braunschweig | Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt |
Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute) | Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. | University of Bremen, ZARM
BACHELOR IN NANOTECHNOLOGY
Initiated by the Laboratory of Nano and Quantum Engineering, Leibniz University Hannover offers the interdisciplinary degree course Nanotechnology as Bachelor and consecutive Master. The Bachelor's programme qualifies students in the highly interdisciplinary field of nanotechnology by combining the disciplines of chemistry, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and physics.
MetroSommer
We offer late Bachelor and early Master students the opportunity to work on a project in one of the many PTB working groups. The skills learned here can be applied to the everyday lab life and extended. The topics range from atomic clocks over acoustics to explosives.
